This is a truly exceptional example of the much-loved TC variant of the venerable 'Midget' series. Aesthetically there was little change between a 1936 TA and the TC, though the latter was powered by a slightly improved version of the XPAG engine that was introduced in 1939 with the advent of the TB.
There were reputedly 10,001 TC's made between 1945 and 1950 and this one, chassis number 8739, is quite a late one to leave the Abingdon factory in Oxfordshire. A matching numbers car with the correct XPAG engine and 4-speed gearbox, this car is now fitted with a Ford type-9 five-speed affair which makes cruising at the widely acclaimed 80mph much more feasible. The synchromesh helps make things more civilised too. Discreet indicators with an audible warning have also been tastefully fitted to improve safety in the modern age.
The car has had just 3 owners and spent most of its life in New Zealand, only being repatriated in 2010. It had already gone a stupendously thorough restoration (documented with pictures) whilst overseas and its sole UK owner until now clearly lavished equal amounts of attention on the car, cherishing it and treating it to anything that was required - or that could improve it even further - such as electronic ignition and an electric fuel pump, plus a fully rebuilt differential. Cosmetically it was also treated to a new hood, side screens and tonneau in biscuit tan to match the delightful interior. The contrast of this with the superb 'Shires Green' paint make for a perfect combination.
It has just been fitted with a new clutch and wants for nothing. Probably one of the best examples available anywhere.
