This is a rare opportunity to acquire a sleeping giant in investment terms. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 911 genre, Porsche launched a limited run of 1,963 worldwide 996 generation '40 Jahre' plaque adorned cars. Based on the narrow-bodied Carrera 2, these cars featured the deeper Turbo front bumper (with unique splitter and painted grilles) and sills from the GT3. The lightweight Carrera wheels left the factory polished rather than painted, and the cars were all finished in metallic GT silver, a colour reserved only for the now fabled Carrera GT at the time. GT silver extended to the centre console and backs of the sports seats and a plaque featured in front of the manual gearstick. This car is number 865. The seats are uniquely trimmed in dark grey leather whilst the headlining is dark alcantara. The interior of this car, along with the exterior, presents flawlessly.

As well as the visual differences, the 40 Jahre also features the very desirable X51 engine upgrade as standard, pushing output to an official figure of 345bhp (25bhp more than a standard 996), although reputedly this may indeed be more and was downplayed by Porsche in period to maintain a discernible differentiation between it and the GT3.. Certainly the 40 Jahre seems to far outperform standard cars with a noticeable surge at the top-end by comparison. A factory LSD is also fitted along with M030 suspension.

Supplied new by Porsche West London and extremely well maintained with low owners, this 54k mile example makes for a shrewd and enjoyable investment.
