We are delighted to offer this fabulous matching numbers 1959 Jaguar XK150FHC for sale.
Presented in classic yet contemporary ‘Mist Grey’ with red leather interior, this elegant example is powered by the 3.4 litre inline-6 twin ohc unit which was described in a period October 1958 ‘Motor Sport’ article (included in the history file) as “splendid”. It would be hard to disagree and this example mated to a manual Moss gearbox with overdrive is no exception.
Chassis no S824713DN is an early 1959 home market car. S denotes ‘Special Equipment’ model and DN denotes overdrive. FHC chassis numbers commence with 824 making this the 713th rhd car. Overdrive was an optional extra and well worth having as 3000 rpm represents almost 80 mph.
The engine number is V 5799 - 8. The prefix indicates 3.4 and the 8 suffix is the compression ratio. These were nominally rated at 210 bhp by Jaguar at the time - when everyone was a bit optimistic with their figures! [The 3.8 “S” was 265bhp, the same as the first E types].
The first custodian owned ‘VCG’ for 47 years and the car has had just 4 former keepers in total. It is very evident that all have cared for it lovingly, with each retaining various invoices and thus the accompanying history dates back to 1965.
Within the file there is a signed note declaring that the car, which was being sold at the time (8th March 2006), had been purchased new by the late father of Mr A Webb. The odometer at this point stood at 46,070 miles which is commensurate to it now indicating just 55,889 miles. The engine was fully rebuilt (everything itemised and documented) in 1997 at a cost of £5,584 and has since covered less than 20,000 miles according to this current odometer reading.
A CD documenting previous extensive renovation is also present in the history file. Externally the car wears a lovely degree of patina indicating the quality of this work carried out by marque specialists Twyford Moors in the late 1990’s. Further to this, a full professional re-trim conducted by P&K Thornton restorations in 2010 is also documented and the interior still presents magnificently.
Indeed there is a reassuring wealth of invoices from a host of other relevant suppliers such as SNG Barratt and CMC. Recent service work totalling £2,349 by AJ Lee Classics Limited near Sandbach has included a thorough assessment and address: Pivot points have been greased, front and rear brakes checked and the handbrake adjusted, spark plugs gapped and carburettor banjo’s tightened to stop a minor leak. A core plug leak has also been rectified (new plugs fitted), the dynamo and regulator overhauled and a fresh MOT valid until 16th March 2024 issued for complete peace of mind.
