Imported from Illinois in July 1999 by London Classic Trading and sold to Chapel End Cars, Warwickshire, this elegant 3.4 litre motorcar was then subject to a full rebuild and right-hand drive conversion by respected XK engineer Trevor Groom. It was then purchased by Kenneth Hartlett in June 2010, whom parted with the car to CMC (Classic Motor Cars) in Shropshire. It was then sold to the current third UK custodian in September 2018.

The car was first registered 01st January 1955. It was the 739th built in that year (the second year of production for the XK140) after this replaced the XK120 in October 1954.

Chassis no: S814743 left the factory as a ‘SE’ (Special Equipment) model known as the ‘XK140 MC’ owing to its C-Type cylinder head. The car retains its original block, though the cylinder head has been replaced. It has however been replaced with the correct C-type cylinder head as denoted by the ‘S’ suffix, and has the correct compression ratio as denoted by the engine suffix number ‘8’.

An all-synchro Jaguar gearbox now features too which is an excellent upgrade, along with the XJ/6 type overdrive unit of which both function completely as intended. The car also features a 3.31 ratio LSD.

Other notable improvements include;

- WOSP high-torque starter motor

- Alternator

- Adjustable shocks

- Front disc brakes (3-pot)

- Alloy fuel tank

- Electric fan with manual override inside the cabin

- Electric windscreen washers

- Orange fuel light indicator @ approx. 15-18 litres

- Spare wheel

- 123 electronic ignition

- Facet fuel pump

The car presents very well in a unique, smart and distinctive shade of ‘Flag Metallic Blue’ as per the Ecurie Ecosse racing team. The interior also presents very nicely, having been re-trimmed with quality blue hide on the bucket seats and door cards and woollen blue carpet. Complete with the mechanical upgrades and roundels on the doors and boot (adhesive), this car would be ideal to use for either touring and/or competing in historic rallies. Failing that it could be simply enjoyed for road use owing to its well-mannered nature. A heritage certificate accompanies the history file along with photographs at the time of the restoration. Although not currently wearing any bumpers, the immaculate brightwork is also included.
